Day 17: Sunny in Surrey.
Visiting the Route 99 Tire & Auto Centre in Surrey today, the employees were happy to pose in a picture with Kalina!
There are 28 return collection facilities in Surrey and today we visited 17. These facilities gladly accept used oil, filters and plastic containers during their regular hours of operation. With 28 in the area, it shouldn’t be hard to find one near you!
Day 16: A Scenic Monday in Hope, Agassiz and Mission
This day started out beautifully with a scenic drive all the way out to Hope, where we met with R&R Recycling. This recycling centre will accept all your used oil, oil filters, and plastic oil containers and ensure they are responsibly recycled!
Next, we headed back west and visited the charming town of Agassiz.
Day 15: Our Final Day on Beautiful Vancouver Island
Nanaimo was a very interesting town, filled with many facilities where you can drop off your used oil and many helpful people to make recycling responsibly an easy task!
We visited the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange and were greeted by a staff of friendly recyclers! It is conveniently located in central Nanaimo, on Kenworth Street just off the North Island Highway.
Day 14: Cruising up the North Island Highway.
On our travels through Ladysmith today, we stopped at the Peerless Road Drop-Off Depot. We were impressed with the amount of items that people are able to drop-off… totally free of charge!
Day 13: Heading North on the Malahat
The people of Duncan really love the look of Bubbles! We received many smiles and excited lots of children as we drove around town.
We were pleased to learn that the local radio station here in Duncan, 89.7 Sun FM, airs an environmental fact every day. Tune in to learn some green tips!
While in town, we stopped in at a pharmacy and were relieved to discover that even out-of-towners like us could return our un-used medications.
Day 12: Bubbles and Boats
Today we started off the day in Langford where Gary from EZ Lube gave us our first tour of an oil change facility! It was great to finally see some “behind the scenes” action! A reporter from the Goldstream Gazette also joined us here so be sure to watch for the story next week!
Next we took Bubbles to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club! It was very interesting to visit the dock and it was a nice change of scenery from the usual auto-body shops. A pat on the back has to go to the Yacht Club for going above and beyond the call of environmental duty.
Day 11: : Hittin the Highways of Victoria
We are loving the Island scenery… a few photo opts with Bubbles were clearly in order!
We had a very productive day in Victoria today… 11 collection facilities visited before noon!!! It must have been the big breakfast we treated ourselves to this morning. Ha ha!
Day 10: Sailing the high seas to Victoria
Today was a big day for Bubbles…his first trip on the ferry!!!
Our first day in Victoria has been wonderful!
The Island folk have been absolutely lovely to chat with!!
Our first stop was the Mr. Lube on Douglas Street. We’d like to thank them for giving us such a GREAT first impression of the Island! We left them with lots of oil spouts for their customer appreciation day on June 18th…
Day 9: Our First of Many Days Chillin in Chilliwack!
Today was our first day out in Chilliwack, which is the home of BCUOMA! We met up with the Executive Director of BCUOMA, Ron Driedger. We discussed our recent travels and learned even more about used oil recycling at our new favorite coffee house, Decades!
We also visited some friendly facilities around town and met some very environmentally conscious people. That is always nice to experience! Above is a picture of Laura-Leigh and Bubbles cruising by The Great Canadian Oil Change!
Day 8: Visiting Port Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and Mission!
We had a wonderful day touring the charming cities of Port Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and Mission. Neither of us had spent much time in any of these cities before, but it is now safe to say that we like these cities a lot! The collection facilities were all very pleasant to chat with and we delivered lots of oil spouts today! Everyone really like the oil spouts!
We had a government meeting in Port Coquitlam and a photo shoot in Maple Ridge.
