Kitimat & Prince Rupert
Tiffany and I drove down to Kitimat this morning from Terrace to visit the OK Tire that takes back used oil and antifreeze!
Fun Fact: Kititmat means “People of the Snow” and the town was named that because of their exceptionally harsh winters.
Second Fun Fact: Kitimat is one of the newest municipalities in Canada as it came into existence around 1953.
Prince Rupert was our next destination! Where we had a moo velous afternoon…you’ll get the joke in a second.
Cow Bay is a waterfront district in the city of Prince Rupert. There is cow print everywhere and it made us stop to ask the barista at Cowpaccinos “what’s up with all these cows”? She told us that the bay came to have this name from the dairy farmers unloading their cattle that they barged to the area. Apparently it was quite the site to see hundreds of cows trying to climb up the bay in the wet mud. In 1908 the name officially changed from Cameron Cove to Cow Bay.
The area has not forgotten its history. You are reminded of cows everywhere you look: from the dumpsters, to the street poles, to the fire hydrants, and to the giant umbrellas on the side of the road.
moo ving on now to other Moows…we we will be heading to Smithers tomorrow!
