Day 42: Counting the miles to Williams Lake

August 11, 2009

On our journey north today, we passed through 95, 97, 99, 100, 108, 111, 114, 122, 127, 141 and 150 Mile House. Now, the question we ambassadors are stumped on is: Where does this mile counting begin at??

Regardless of our curiosity, we were happy to arrive in Williams Lake after the 150 mile mark. We checked in with all the return collection facilities in town and were thrilled to speak with individuals who are as passionate about protecting the environment as we are! Any one of these seven locations in town will be happy to accept your used oil so that it can be recycled into new lubricating oil or fuel. Don’t forget about the oil filters or plastic containers either. The plastic containers can have a second life as part of a parking curb or drainage tile and the filters can be made into re-bar, nails or other reinforcing steel. Who knew that part of the material made to build your home could have once been an old oil filter!

Just visit usedoilrecycling.com to get exact directions to any one of the local return collection facilities.

Not only are there numerous places in town to return your used oil, but there is a also a location in Williams Lake to bring in your paint, flammables, pesticides and gasoline. Visit the Central Cariboo Disposal Services at 100 – 5101 Frizzi Rd. Make sure you are disposing of all your hazardous waste in the proper manner!

On a final note, look for us in the next edition of the Cariboo Advisor to read more about BCUOMA’s summer ambassador team and our message that one drop of oil makes a difference!
