Driving along the Kootenay River, the ambassadors are once again reminded of how important it is to get their message out to as many people as possible: One drop of oil makes a difference… it is an awful thought to imagine this beautiful river being contaminated by even a single drop of used oil!

In the community of Cranbrook, we came across many environmentally conscious employees at the local return collection facilities. Visit usedoilrecycling.ca, click BC on the map located at the right-hand side and search Cranbrook for a list of all the local collection facilities. Return your used oil at any of these locations and help to preserve and protect this stunning region of BC. Try to ensure that used oil returns are free of any contamination (even from water!).

If traveling through the area, here are some tips from the ambassadors to keep your journey “green”:
-Use cruise control when possible to maximize your fuel economy.
-Be sure your tires are properly inflated to increase their mileage and decrease fuel consumption.
-Keep a well-maintained exhaust system to decrease noise and prevent vehicle emissions from entering the environment.
-Get your coffee to stay or use a travel mug… a Large Tim Horton’s travel mug is under $6!
-If the option is available, choose accommodations that are eco-friendly. We recommend the Elizabeth Lake Lodge in Cranbrook… they recently received a 4 Key Environmental Award from the Hotel Association of Canada!
-Use google maps to find out exactly where your destination lies so you can avoid getting lost and wasting gas.
